It feels like winter in the past few days. It is cold, wet and windy, and we don’t get to see the sun much. It is not a great weather to be outside, as you can easily catch a cold. A lot of people already are complaining that they are feeling tired, lethargic and just lacking energy. I myself felt exactly the same way last week. I didn’t get a cold, but I could feel that my body was fighting with something. So I immediately adjusted my diet to give my body even more nutrients and to help strengthen my immune system. In this post I want to share with you a shot that I prepare¬†when I feel my immune system is weakened. It works like magic! But the secret is to take it before you get a cold, so as soon as you feel your body weakened. If you wait until you are actually sick, it will still be good for you, but obviously won’t prevent you from catching a cold. ūüôā


The shot is super easy to make, I must admit, it does not taste spectacular, but I consider it more like a holistic prevention, than a drink you sip on for a while. You just drink it and it’s done! Why is this shot so good for you? Because it contains all the right ingredients to help you strengthen your immune system.

Turmeric is high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, has anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. You can increase the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric by mixing it with black pepper.

Ginger is a powerful detoxifier. Cleansing the body helps strengthen the immune system. Ginger also has antimicrobial properties and can be used topically as an antiseptic. It can help combat cold and just like turmeric it has anti-inflammatory properties. It stimulates circulation and creates heat in the body.

Lemon is packed with vitamin C, which boosts the immune system. It is also high in bioflavonoids, that can help destroy free radicals and fight inframmation.

Raw honey is great against sore throat and can contain immune-boosting bacteria. It is also a great anti-oxidant. Raw honey is different from the commercial ones, as it is  not heated, filtered or pasteurised. It might also contain bee pollen and propolis, which enhance its health benefits.

Ingredients (makes one shot):

  • fresh turmeric (1/3 thumb size)
  • fresh ginger¬†(1/3 thumb size)
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tsp raw honey
  • dash of black pepper


  1. Juice the lemon, ginger and turmeric.
  2. Add the honey and pepper.
  3. Stir well and drink immediately.
