LemonWe spend so much money on beauty products and expensive cosmetics, but often we can find the perfect remedy in fruits and vegetables, as nature made them.

There is a fruit that can be used in so many ways – you can squeeze it on your salads, add it to your cocktails, make a refreshing drink of it and yes – apply it on your skin. I am talking about lemons of course! Lemons really can provide you with an answer to most of your health problems.

After trying a number of expensive cosmetic products I decided to try a homemade remedy to clear my skin and diminish redness. I have to say it showed great results after only a week! But before I tell you more about the method I used, let me give you some information about why lemons are so good for your skin.

Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C, one of the most important antioxidants in nature. And while vitamin C is important for the immune system (remember the hot tea with lemon and honey?), it also fights free radicals and can help reduce the aging signs of your skin. Lemons also have the most protein of all fruits and are high in collagen, the protein that gives structure to your skin.  Hello healthy looking skin!

So what can lemon do for your skin?

  • It diminishes scars and skin blemishes. The vitamin C can help the skin become more firm and strong.  Applying lemon juice on your skin can really reduce skin redness and pimples, as it brightens and lightens the skin. Its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties fight pimple build up.
  • It can help win the acne battle. Skin experts believe that lemon juice can effectively remove blackheads and speed up the process of acne healing.
  • Lemon juice helps reduce wrinkles. The moisturising and toning effect of lemon juice can help reduce the wrinkles on your skin.
  • Exfoliate the skin naturally. The citric acid in lemons acts as a mild peel for the skin that removes the top layer of dead skin cells.

How to use lemon juice for skin care?

What I did in the past two weeks was the following:

I would dab the freshly squeezed organic lemon juice on a cotton pad and apply it on my clean face, concentrating especially on the areas with imperfections. I leave the juice on for about 30 minutes and then I rinse it well and apply my day or night cream.

The acids in lemon juice can feel a bit irritating on your skin at first, causing you a slight stinging sensation. So if you have very sensitive skin, apply the lemon juice together with some honey. It will do wonders.

I also exfoliate my skin mixing up some lemon juice with cane sugar (as the exfoliator). I dab my cotton pad into the lemon juice and then in the sugar and apply directly on my skin with circular movements. I leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse well.

It works wonders for me and I saw results after one week! Home remedies can work better for some than others, but you never know unless you try.

I would love to hear about your experience with it and whether it produced the results it did for me.
