Looking for an excuse to have more chocolate in your life? Who doesn’t?! 🙂 Chocolate is one of the most common cravings people have. The recipe I am sharing with you today will hit the spot for chocolate and will offer you much more – nutritious ingredients! I always get excited when I know I am indulging in something delicious, that is also prepared with healthy ingredients. It is possible to enjoy your dessert without feeling guilty. Those truffles are the proof for that. They are gooey, rich and sweet, and super easy to make. So run to your kitchen and make these babies! I find them so moreish, that I ended up eating a few of the truffles, while taking the pictures for the recipe. 😉
Let me tell you a bit more about the ingredients for this recipe. I am using raw cacao – there is a difference between raw cacao and cocoa. Raw cacao is made by cold-pressing unroasted cocoa beans. This gentle process keep the enzymes in the cocoa and removes the fat (the cocoa butter). Raw cacao has a high content of antioxidants and contains more fiber and nutrients than cocoa. Cocoa on the other hand has been roasted at high temperature, which reduces the enzyme content and its overall nutritious value. This doesn’t mean cocoa is bad for you. If you choose cocoa powder, make sure you go for one without added sugar. And if you can, try the raw cacao powder, which in my opinion is superior.
Dates are nature’s candy, and this is the reason I like to add them to my desserts. They make everything taste like caramel and give it a nice gooey texture. Dates are just one of those perfect ingredients for dessert. They are also great for nursing women. The other sweetener I’m using in this recipe is blackstrap molasses. I have started using it because it is so rich in minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium. It is a nourishing sweetener and so much better for you than refined sugar, that only contains simple carbohydrates. Blackstrap molasses has a strong flavour, but in this recipe you will only get a hint of it. It is not overwhelming at all.
So lets get to the recipe. Here is what you will need:
