scrub3 (1)I love coconut oil! I love using it in my food, as it gives such a nice flavour, plus it is super healthy for you. If you would like to know more about the advantages of using coconut oil check my post here.

But coconut oil is not only a great addition for your diet, it is a powerful beauty enhancer as well. It can be used for gorgeous hair (it can be used as a conditioner and promotes hair growth), and it is super beneficial for your skin too! No wonder it is used in so many natural beauty products!

Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and anti-fungal, an excellent moisturiser and it just smells amazing!

It is the perfect base to prepare your homemade body scrub! And I assure you – you will not go back to store bought scrubs after you try this one!

I learned about this scrub at one of the workshops Orla Collective organises here in Luxembourg. If you haven’t heard about this mindful community, go check them out. They have some awesome content on their blog.

Linda from Orla Collective made two different scrubs during the workshop (more info about the workshop here). I completely fell for the coconut-lime scrub! It is so easy to make, I have been making it for myself ever since. The combination of coconut and lime is just so yummy and refreshing, you will want to eat this off your body!

So here is how to make this scrub at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup sea salt
  • zest from 1 lime
  • optional: lime or lemon essential oil

Method:

Place the oil, salt and zest in a bowl. If you are not using a grater to zest the lime you might use a knife to chop it finely before adding it to the mix. Stir well to combine and if desired add a 1-3 drops of essential oil. You can store it at room temperature for several weeks.

Use the scrub to gently exfoliate your skin. Rinse off with warm water. Your skin will feel soft and hydrated after this.

Using salt in your scrub will make it more gentle and will make more of a detoxifying body scrub. Salt has the ability to pull out toxins from the skin and contains a host of trace elements that fill gaps in the immune system. This is also an excellent scrub you can use while preparing yourself for a juice detox program. If you would like a bit more of a rough texture in your scrub, feel free to use brown sugar instead of salt.
