Ah toddlerhood! You flew in like a tornado with your intense emotions and unpredictability. .
.
It has been a privilege and a challenge to witness my daughter become more independent and to exert her will ever so loudly. But how do you deal with this overwhelming swirl of emotions that so often catches you off guard? .
.
In the safe space of our home it’s easier as I can focus only on her emotions and needs and provide her with the comfort or containment she needs. When we’re outside things can get complicated. . .
I have oftentimes felt judged and even ashamed whenever my daughter would throw the rare fit in a public space. These emotions would completely overcome me to the point in which I forget how to be there for my daughter and give her what she needs right now. .
.
It took some practice but I am now in a place where I don’t feel as bothered by what other people might think when my daughter gets upset. I switch to an emergency mode where all that matters is tending to her wellbeing. Sometimes this means letting her experience her emotions fully (more crying) while I’m there for her. .
.
Of course if I can, I’d go someplace private so that I don’t disturb people because I’m aware of their space as well. .
.
Can I offer a tip? Maybe next time you see a crying toddler and a stressed out mom, give them a smile and tell her you get it, rather then giving judging looks- it makes a world of a difference! ☺️ #embracetheemotions 📸 @dominikamontonenkoivisto Salsify what? I have seen this oddly looking root vegetable, that resembles a dried wooden stick at the farmer’s market before, but I never got the courage or interest to buy and try to cook it.
The other day, as I opened my vegetable subscription box from my local farmer, I saw it there, hidden in a paper wrap between the other vegetables. It almost looked as if it was trying to hide itself from me. Its crusty skin, which was all covered in soil didn’t look appealing and I was scratching my head wondering how I will use this oddly looking root.
But appearances can deceive.
Though not exactly pretty, salsify, turns out, has remarkable nutritional and flavour properties. I’m sharing a simple recipe for salsify purée on my blog, give it a try. I was happy to discover this veggie :) .

I used to stress so much about what and how I’d eat when on a holiday that it’d ruin almost all the fun. Thankfully that’s not the case anymore 🤪I give myself permission to fall off my usual diet and to just adapt to the environment I’m in. If my mother has prepared a meal and put all her love in it and maybe an ingredient or two I usually stay away from, would I refuse it? Of course not! I’ve come to realize that food is much more than just the ingredients in it. It is loaded with energy from the intention and emotion of the cook, it is the bonding medium that brings people closer together around a table and connects them deeply. Does this mean I’d eat junk or things I know my body won’t appreciate? No, because I’ve also learned to respect my body. It is not all black and white. Choosing our food intuitively in the moment can actually help us connect deeper with our body and it’s current needs. 💫

I also like to add lots of veggies into stews and curries as well as sauces and dips. The options are endless. I regularly offer a variety of fruits and veggies just as they are, in order to promote a healthy relationship with food and feed my daughter’s curiosity to explore new flavors, textures and colors. What are some of your go-to recipes that involve lots of veggies? Share them below, I’d love to see them! 💫
