I hope you are enjoying the summer! I certainly love those warm, sunny days. It is the perfect weather to eat more fresh, raw and juicy fruits and vegetables.
As this is the season of summer get-togethers, BBQs and picnics some of you might be wondering what to serve to your guests. This was the reason why I organized a cooking workshop last Wednesday, where we focused on creating a menu for summer get-togethers. I had such a wonderful time cooking together with the workshop participants, and I cannot wait for the next workshop in September! It will be a fun one, and soon I will disclose more details about it.
Today I’d like to share with you an idea for a dessert platter for your next party, dinner or picnic. It is incredibly easy, requires no baking, and you can use whatever ingredients you have at hand. The main ingredients for this platter are fruits. And I love preparing a fruit platter like this on Sunday morning, because it also makes for a great breakfast. Having freshly cut fruit beautifully displayed will guarantee that everyone will eat more of it. Fruits are not just nature’s candy, but they also offer loads of vitamins, minerals, fiber and water. So having more of them in summer is no sin. I have mentioned in a previous post that having fruit for dessert is not the best option for optimal digestion, so I’d like to remind you to go easy on this platter if you serve it as a dessert, and to make sure you give yourself time between the main course and the dessert. I often actually start with the fruit dessert platter and then move on to the other foods, but I know not everyone likes to start off with fruit. So just remember to give your stomach some time to work on the food you’ve eaten, before you move on to fruit.
This platter is pretty, colourful, tasty and will satisfy any of your guests (there’s some chocolate for the ones who might not be big fruit fans ;)).
With that said let’s get to the recipe. Here’s what I used for this platter, but feel free to use whatever fresh fruits, nuts and dried fruit you have at hand.
Assorted Dessert Platter
- 1 dark chocolate or dark chocolate pralines
- fresh grapes
- 2-3 fresh figs (thinly sliced)
- 2 fresh peaches (thinly sliced)
- 2-3 fresh apricots (thinly sliced)
- 1 orange
- 1 clementine
- 1 kiwi
- 3-4 dried figs (thinly sliced)
- 1 dried apricot
- handful of pistachio nuts
- handful of hazelnuts
- some coconut flakes for decoration
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- Slice the fruit and arrange it on the platter. You can get creative here and use a cookie cutter to cut the kiwi, orange or apple into a star or a heart shape.
- Assort the chocolate on the plate next to the fruits.
- Add the nuts and dried fruit
- Sprinkle on top with some coconut flakes.
- Serve with the almond butter on the side.
